Pre-philately. Letter written in Rio de Janeiro on March 9, 1830, delivered on board the “Rio Ave”, and destined for Lisbon. However, it entered Portugal through Porto, where it took the “Barra do Porto” PRT-BA 1 (R3), and the printed postage of 160 reis. From Porto, it was sent by land to Lisbon, where it arrived on June 12. The reason why territorial postage was not applied in Lisbon is unknown, having been delivered at Rua do Ferregial.
