1939 (12 June) Air mail cover carried by Imperial Airways flying Boat "CENTURION" Sydney - London. The "CENTURION" left Sydney Australia on June 8 for England and was caught in a severe gust of wind when coming into land on the Hooghly River near Calcutta. The plane crashed and the passengers & crew were rescued. Much of the mail was severely water damaged. The "CENTURION" sank and the mail was Salvaged later. This cover from Sydney to New York via London which received two line cachet ‘SALVAGED MAIL / EX CENTURION’ and an Explanatory Label believed to be applied in New York
