Hardinge, Charles Stewart Poormandal, Mela or Festival - Fine hand-colored lithographic view of a Jammu. His represents Purmandal, popularly known as 'Chhota Kashi' which is located on the holy river Devika, considered to be as sacred as the Ganges. There are several temples here including that of Umapati and the adjoining Shiva temples. Hardinge described the town in the 19th Century as, 'The resort of pilgrims from all parts of the hills on the celebration of the 'Male', which is a religious festival, the streets are filled with Hillmen of every tribe and every description of Costume'.
