With wired and sealed label (royal crown) “Mercê de H. A. R. O Sereníssimo Senhor Dom João VI”. Dia. 102 mm; Weight 78.7 g. A similar plaque is described in the Cadaval Inventories no. 240 of 210, rubric 1 and no. 248 of 1815, rubric 7: “Set of Grand Cross of the Order of the Tower and sword with perforated plaque for daily use, special mercy of 'El Rey our Lord for having belonged to him” (book p. 196). A score very similar to this is represented in the well-known portrait of Dom João VI from c. 1818, painted in Paris by the Flemish Albert Jakob Gregorius (1774 - 1855), acquired at auction for the Ajuda National Palace.
