The number “1” on the buckle distinguishes having been awarded for Distinguished Services; the other without numbers distinguishes Service Attendance. In this case, there are 10 years of service in Ultramar with no grades in the disciplinary curriculum. * An Exemplary Behavior medal, silver grade, of the type created on October 2, 1863, but in force with the regulation of December 21, 1886 * Military Order of Avis, insignia of the type before 1894: Military Knight habit (type with Maltese cross); silver Commander plaque; 1 cm and 1.5 cm rosettes, indicating the degree of “officers” and “commanders” of the Order * Royal Military Order of Avis, insignia resulting from the reform of August 13, 1894: silver-gilt plaque (Grand Officer) * Military Order of the Tower and Sword, of Valor, Loyalty and Merit, Commander insignia: 1 mm rosette; silver habit; Commander's necklace in gilt silver, with maker's mark G. da Costa (active from 1887 to 1903) Army officer who served more than 10 years overseas, but less than 20 years, whose last rank was colonel, spanning the period from 1880 to 1910, participated in a major campaign (perhaps in Angola, Cuamato 1904) or in Mozambique, where he was awarded the Tower and Sword.
