This very rare coin is one of four with a photograph in the important work of Mário Gomes Marques, "História of Moeda Medieval Portuguesa" 1996, where this extraordinary medievalist develops the reasons for attributing this coin to King D. Dinis and not to the infant with the same name, son of Inês of Castro. Ex. MEP LEGADO II, Lot 3.
The Tournês design is inspired by the French “gros tournois” between 1226 and 1314.
One of the most important Portuguese coins.
